The Meneely Family in Vienna, Austria
Spring 2003
My dad is on sabbatical this year, so he and my mom are in Vienna, Austria for the semester. My dad is doing research at the University of Vienna, while my mom is simply enjoying Austria with the various guests coming through. For my spring break, my sister and I flew all the way out there to visit them for the week. After the trip, I figured out that the total time I spent in airports/airplanes during that break was 43 hours! I took eight flights through five airports in three different countries to see my mom and dad - and it was worth every little bit!
Take a short tour of our trip below.
Schoenbrunn: This was the palace of the famous Habsburgs. The Habsburgs were a family that ruled Austria for about 700 years doing what they do best - marrying within the family. They were not a fighting family, but enjoyed the fine arts and aesthetics as their summer palace generously shows.
Salzburg: This city is right on the border between Austria and Germany, about an hour and a half train ride from Vienna. Nestled in the beautiful German Alps, Salzburg was the home of Mozart, a giant fortress, the oldest cemetary in Austria, and a ton of tourist shops. This part has my favorite pictures.
Miscellaneous Pictures of Vienna: Here are some pictures of the city that we took while touring Vienna.
Ossuary: These are some pretty incredible pictures. Though I was not present on this trip, my parents went to visit this place in the Czech Republic where they store human bones. There are more than 40,000 human bones in this small place!
